About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking experienced Senior Solaris/AIX/HP-UX Engineers to support a major Data Centre Exit Programme for a leading global systems integrator within the UK Public Sector. This programme involves the migration of critical services from an existing physical data centre into AWS. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a remote role.

Our client is seeking Senior Engineers to analyse, design, and produce a detailed runbook for a large-scale migration of enterprise services to AWS. You will shape the technical strategy and migration approach, enabling delivery teams to execute the runbook effectively. This is a hands-on technical design and planning role requiring deep infrastructure expertise across legacy UNIX, virtualisation, networking, and cloud migration.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse existing Solaris/AIX/HP-UX environments and assess technical requirements for migration to AWS.
  • Design and document the end-to-end migration approach for a complex suite of critical production services.
  • Create detailed runbooks and procedural documentation for delivery and junior engineers to execute.
  • Work closely with architecture, infrastructure, and cloud teams to ensure alignment on migration strategies and dependencies.
  • Identify risks, constraints, and mitigation strategies to ensure a safe and efficient transition from physical data centres.
  • Troubleshoot and advise on complex multi-server service issues, particularly in high‑availability environments.
  • Contribute technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of complex concepts.

About You

  • Significant hands-on experience with one or more of the following in large, complex enterprise environments:
    • Windows/Linux (SLES/RHEL)
    • Solaris / AIX / HP‑UX
    • VMWare
    • F5 BigIP / Networking
    • Stromasys (Solaris/HP‑UX Emulator)
    • MIMIX (AIX migrations)
    • Oracle
    • AWS & AWS Migration Services
    • AWS DMS
  • Proven track record in debugging and supporting complex, multi‑server, high‑availability production systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
