About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Java Developer to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 12‑month contract with excellent prospects for extension and will be a hybrid role based in Cheshire.

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to support a major programme of work within their Pensions line of business, focused on modernising core services, building new API-driven capabilities, and contributing to a microservices transformation roadmap. You will work closely with technical leads, product owners and cross-functional teams to deliver high‑quality, scalable and secure backend services.

Responsibilities: 
 
  • Develop high‑quality Java microservices using Spring Boot within a cloud-aligned architecture.
  • Build, consume and maintain RESTful APIs supporting pensions processing and servicing.
  • Develop and maintain containerised components using Docker in Linux environments.
  • Contribute to event-driven system design and integrations using Kafka.
  • Work with analysts, architects, and QA teams to ensure robust, well-tested and maintainable code.

About You

  • Strong commercial experience in Java backend development, with a focus on API and microservice development.
  • Hands-on experience withSpring Boot, REST APIs, Docker, Linux, MongoDB, and Kafka.
  • Ability to work within agile delivery teams and contribute to design discussions and solution shaping.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with experience working in complex or regulated environments.
  • Minimum 5–7+ years’ experience in Java development roles.
