About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Data Engineer to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6‑month contract with the aim to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Bristol (preferred), Birmingham or Leeds.

Our client is seeking a Data Engineer to support several transformation initiatives across digital planning, rewards and loyalty, and private banking. The role involves developing data models, building data pipelines and supporting the delivery of governed data products across a complex enterprise environment.

Responsibilities:

 
  • Build, maintain and optimise data pipelines across both batch and streaming environments.
  • Contribute to the development of data entity models and support data product delivery.
  • Work with technologies such as Kafka to support event-driven and real-time data flows.
  • Support data governance and metadata management activities, including the use of Collibra.
  • Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams across multiple business areas.
  • Ensure all solutions comply with internal data quality, security and governance standards.
  • Produce documentation and contribute to continuous improvement activity within the team.

About You

  • Strong technical understanding of data engineering concepts including data modelling and building data entity models.
  • Hands‑on experience with Kafka or similar event‑streaming technologies.
  • Experience working with data governance and metadata tools such as Collibra.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Scala.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with architecture and engineering teams in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in a data engineering or data-focused technical role.
