About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Java Developer to work for our client within the Banking sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a Hybrid role that will be based in London.

Our client is seeking an experienced Java Developer to shape technical direction, build production‑ready systems, and integrate complex datasets into a unified, intuitive user experience.

Responsibilities:

Design and deliver high‑quality Java‑based backend services and microservices supporting real‑time data flows across institutional systems.
Build React + TypeScript interfaces used directly by front‑office salespeople, ensuring exceptional performance and clarity.
Own end‑to‑end technical decisions on architecture, design patterns, and integration strategy.
Collaborate with Sales, Trading, Data, and Architecture teams to understand requirements across various Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities asset classes.
Integrate multiple legacy systems into a single user landing page/navigation layer, ensuring seamless interaction with existing tools.
Contribute hands‑on to codebase, testing, reviews, deployment, and observability.
Support the evolution towards AI‑assisted sales tooling by ensuring data structures and workflows are AI‑ready.

About You

Java backend engineering (Java 11+ preferred).
Experience with React, TypeScript, modern web frameworks, and component‑driven design.
Ability to design APIs, microservices, event‑driven solutions.
Understanding of data modelling, system integrations, caching, and performance tuning.
Background in data‑heavy, low‑latency, or front‑office systems.
Comfortable making architectural decisions and delivering robust, secure, scalable systems.
Experience in FICC / Sales & Trading / Markets environments strongly preferred.
Ability to work independently and “build from scratch” without heavy oversight.
