About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Delivery Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester.

The Senior Delivery Manager will lead and coordinate multiple concurrent discovery initiatives, working closely with Business Analysts, Architects, and operational stakeholders to produce comprehensive Discovery Packs and facilitate Discovery Playback sessions. The role ensures each discovery is well‑planned, well‑executed, and delivered within agreed time, scope, and budget constraints.

You will act as the central point of ownership for progressing the discovery through its lifecycle- bringing requirements, technical assessments, risks, assumptions, solution recommendations, and resource implications together into a clear, structured output that supports informed decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple discoveries in parallel, ensuring each has a clear scope, plan, and timeline.
  • Own the delivery of the Discovery Pack, coordinating inputs from the BA, Architect, and operational teams.
  • Facilitate regular discovery meetings, stand-ups, and checkpoints, ensuring actions are driven to completion.
  • Manage risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies throughout the discovery lifecycle.
  • Ensure all discoveries are completed on schedule and within budget, applying weekly monitoring and reporting.
  • Work closely with the Business Analyst to understand gathered requirements, user needs, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Solution Architect as they analyse options, shape technical designs, and propose a recommended solution.
  • Ensure both BA and Architect outputs are aligned and integrated within the Discovery Pack.
  • Engage early with operational teams—including Service Management, Service Desk, Networks, and Testing—to assess feasibility, operational impacts, and support considerations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing updates on progress, risks, blockers, and key findings.
  • Lead discovery playback sessions, presenting findings, solution options, and recommended approaches to senior stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across IT and business teams to ensure discovery outcomes are understood and supported.
  • Translate technical or detailed information into accessible, business‑friendly language.
  • Develop and maintain discovery schedules, ensuring realistic timelines and clear ownership of deliverables.
  • Estimate resource requirements for the preferred solution option and capture these within the Discovery Pack.
  • Manage discovery budgets, tracking actuals vs forecast and ensuring expenditure remains within approved limits.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Delivery Manager leading structured discovery/analysis phases.
  • Strong understanding of discovery processes: requirements gathering, solution shaping, feasibility analysis, and option evaluation.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent pieces of work with strong time‑management and planning skills.
  • Experience coordinating BAs, Architects, and cross-functional technical/operational teams.
  • Skilled at stakeholder management and confident leading senior‑level conversations.
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and presentation.
  • Competent in budgeting, scheduling, RAID management, and formal reporting.
  • Strong facilitator capable of running workshops, stand-ups, and playback sessions.
