About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Agile Delivery Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6‑month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester.

Our client is seeking a Senior Agile Delivery Manager who will deliver end‑to‑end projects and own service delivery for a significant function or product. Working closely with cross‑functional product teams, they will build a delivery roadmap and draw on expertise across software engineering, business process design, user research, UX design and policy development. They will foster resilience, encourage experimentation, and nurture senior stakeholder relationships while leading on business case development. Acting as a servant‑leader, they will promote self‑managing teams and ensure impediments are removed. They will own supplier relationships, implement effective governance, manage project funding and spend, mentor Agile Delivery Managers, build a cross‑government agile network, and lead recruitment and selection for future team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support high‑performing agile teams, promoting continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and a safe environment for experimentation and learning.
  • Use meaningful delivery metrics to guide teams toward goals and identify areas for improvement.
  • Act as a servant‑leader, modelling the right behaviours, managing conflict constructively and fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with technical teams, Product Owners, senior stakeholders and suppliers, ensuring alignment, effective governance and clear communication.
  • Shape delivery roadmaps with Product Owners, support backlog creation and ensure new products and services deliver measurable business value.
  • Lead business case creation and iteration, coordinating across stakeholder groups and establishing best practice for financial and strategic justification.
  • Drive delivery pace across projects by removing blockers, managing risks, issues and dependencies, and guiding junior Agile Delivery Managers.
  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder meetings to define outcomes, set delivery pace and ensure teams progress through the product lifecycle effectively.
  • Oversee financial governance including securing funding, tracking spend and forecasting accurately.
  • Contribute to and uplift the agile community by mentoring others, supporting recruitment, engaging in external events and improving agile standards and tools

About You

  • Ability to identify, compare and select the most suitable delivery processes or methodologies, using data and outcomes to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Comfortable recognising when approaches are not working, promoting experimentation, adaptability, resilience and continuous improvement.
  • Able to apply blended delivery methods depending on context, helping teams prioritise work, visualise outcomes and deliver to MVP standards.
  • Strong listening and communication skills, capable of translating between technical and business stakeholders and adapting communication style as needed.
  • Experience across multiple stages of the product lifecycle, with the ability to judge when to progress, pause or change direction.
  • Skilled in planning and engaging the appropriate stakeholders at each phase of delivery.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders, build long‑term strategic relationships and drive delivery of business outcomes.
  • Strong digital understanding, including the ability to identify and implement assisted digital solutions and help teams adapt to changing user behaviours.
  • Experience managing complex supplier relationships, including selecting suppliers, choosing appropriate contractual frameworks and negotiating to ensure value for money.
  • Ability to define appropriate deliverables and identify the right people required to achieve them throughout the product lifecycle.
