About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior PMO Consultant to support a large‑scale technology and transformation programme within the insurance sector. This is an initial 6‑month contract, with strong potential to extend, based in London (hybrid working).

This role will act as a Senior PMO / Deputy Portfolio Lead, partnering closely with senior technology and transformation leaders to provide strategic oversight of portfolio delivery, strengthen governance, and embed disciplined, insight‑led portfolio management practices across multiple initiatives.

The role is highly visible and influential, requiring strong leadership presence, confidence working with senior stakeholders, and the ability to challenge constructively while driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior advisor to the Portfolio Lead, providing independent insight on delivery confidence, risks, dependencies, and areas requiring intervention
  • Lead pillar‑level and cross‑initiative portfolio reviews (e.g. governance, data quality, reporting, dependency management)
  • Deputise for the Portfolio Lead in governance forums and leadership meetings where required
  • Own and continuously improve portfolio governance frameworks, standards, and reporting quality
  • Provide coaching, direction, and oversight to PMO analysts to uplift capability and consistency across the portfolio
  • Lead portfolio‑wide reporting cycles, producing insight‑driven dashboards, health views, and executive reporting
  • Build strong relationships with Technology Leaders, Delivery Leads, and Business Owners to enable effective decision‑making and accountability

About You

  • Strong experience in senior PMO, programme office, or portfolio office roles, ideally within insurance or financial services
  • Proven experience owning or leading portfolio governance frameworks, reporting standards, and delivery assurance
  • Demonstrated ability to advise, influence, and challenge senior stakeholders with confidence and credibility
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to turn complex delivery data into clear strategic insight
  • Experience coaching or leading PMO analysts and driving improvements in ways of working
  • Confident working across multiple initiatives with competing priorities
  • Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable operating in fast‑paced transformation environments
  • Experience with portfolio tooling and reporting platforms (e.g. Clarity, Wave, or similar PPM tools) is desirable
