About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Project Planner to work for our client within the UK public sector sector. This is initially a 3-month contract with strong prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role, based in one of the 20+ various offices in the UK including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle.

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Planner to support a complex and challenging programme. The role will focus on rebuilding a credible, detailed delivery plan, addressing planning gaps, and providing clear, evidence-based planning artefacts to support senior decision-making. This is a specialist planning role working alongside an existing Project Manager, not a project management position.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain and baseline a detailed end-to-end project plan from a weak or incomplete starting point.
  • Identify and manage dependencies, milestones, critical path and sequencing across IT and business workstreams.
  • Carry out scenario modelling to show the impact of delays and alternative delivery options.
  • Facilitate planning workshops with key stakeholders, including digital and IT teams.
  • Produce planning artefacts suitable for senior leadership and SRO review.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Project Planner on complex UK government programmes.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Project (essential).
  • Experience planning IT-enabled or digital programmes with complex dependencies.
  • Strong understanding of government governance, approvals and reporting expectations (e.g. boards and assurance).
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and challenge unrealistic delivery assumptions.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project planning within large, complex organisations.
