About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Lean Portfolio Manager (Director) to work for our client within the Financial Services sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in London.

Our client is seeking a senior Lean Portfolio Manager to lead portfolio delivery across Business Banking Labs, driving best practice adoption, governance, and alignment to strategic priorities. This role will be responsible for embedding Lean Portfolio Management principles, ensuring effective execution of portfolio events, and maintaining focus on key customer journeys under heightened business scrutiny. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders and portfolio operations to optimise prioritisation, delivery cadence, and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities:  
 
  • Lead and manage a team of 10–15 Lean Portfolio Managers across Business Banking Labs
  • Implement and embed Lean Portfolio Management best practices, ways of working, and governance frameworks
  • Own and drive key L1 portfolio events including Intake Review, Backlog Refinement, Portfolio Sync, and Strategic Portfolio Reviews
  • Partner with Portfolio Operations (2-in-a-box model) to support prioritisation, PI Planning, and governance setup
  • Ensure alignment of portfolio delivery to strategic objectives and customer journey priorities
  • Drive visibility and transparency across the portfolio, identifying risks, dependencies, and delivery challenges
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to influence decision-making and ensure alignment across business and technology teams
  • Oversee portfolio performance, ensuring effective execution and continuous improvement across delivery

About You

  • Proven experience in Lean Portfolio Management within large-scale banking or financial services environments
  •  Strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks (SAFe preferred), including PI Planning, backlog management, and portfolio governance
  •  Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and portfolio reporting/visualisation tools
  •  Demonstrated ability to lead large, cross-functional teams and drive delivery across complex programmes
  •  Strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to influence at senior leadership level
  •  Deep understanding of end-to-end technology delivery and transformation within banking
  •  Experience implementing governance frameworks and improving ways of working across portfolios
  •  Ability to manage risk, dependencies, and prioritisation across multiple delivery streams
  •  Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in technology delivery, portfolio management, or transformation roles within Financial Services
