About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Business Analyst to work for our client within the financial services sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in Cheshire.

Our client is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to support key digital transformation initiatives within a financial services environment. A core focus of this role will be delivering change initiatives involving the Sonata platform, requiring strong functional understanding and the ability to translate Sonata-driven business processes into clear technical and business requirements. You will work across business and technology teams to drive end-to-end delivery, process optimisation, and system enhancements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation across full project lifecycles, with a specific focus on Sonata-related initiatives and enhancements
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand and document Sonata workflows, business processes, and data flows
  • Produce high-quality user stories, business requirements documents, and functional specifications aligned to Sonata platform changes and improvements
  • Conduct process mapping (As-Is / To-Be), particularly across Sonata-integrated processes, identifying opportunities for optimisation
  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, and backlog refinement sessions, ensuring Sonata requirements are accurately captured and prioritised
  • Support UAT and release activities, including validating Sonata functionality, outputs, and integrations with other systems

About You

  • 5–8+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst in IT or digital transformation environments
  • Proven experience within financial services
  • Strong, hands-on experience working with the Sonata platform — including gathering requirements, supporting system enhancements, and working with Sonata-driven business processes across the delivery lifecycle
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum and/or Waterfall methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Visio, and reporting tools like Excel or Power BI
Additional Experience:

  • Strong understanding of business processes, operating models, and data flows
  • Experience in data mapping, reporting, and translating business insights into clear requirements
  • Ability to work closely with technical teams on integrations, system capabilities, and data flows
  • Confident working with senior stakeholders and able to challenge and influence constructively
  • Highly organised, proactive, and delivery-focused
Nice to have:

  • BA certifications (CBAP, BCS, PMI-PBA)
  • Experience in large-scale financial services transformation programmes
  • Exposure to automation, AI, or digital initiatives
