About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Delivery Manager to work for our client within the public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend, and it will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Delivery Manager to provide leadership, oversight and governance across a portfolio of digital, technology and business change projects. This role is responsible for leading delivery professionals, maintaining portfolio health and ensuring effective governance, reporting and project controls are in place.

The successful candidate will operate at both a strategic and operational level, balancing people leadership, portfolio management and governance responsibilities. They will act as a senior point of contact for delivery-related matters, ensuring teams are supported, priorities are effectively managed, and stakeholders have clear visibility of progress, risks and opportunities.

Key Responsibilites: 
  • Lead, coach and support delivery professionals, promoting high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a senior escalation point, removing blockers and supporting successful project delivery.
  • Oversee a portfolio of projects, ensuring progress, quality and alignment with business priorities.
  • Manage portfolio risks, issues, dependencies and resource allocation across multiple initiatives.
  • Lead governance forums, portfolio reviews and reporting activities.
  • Maintain oversight of financial performance, supplier activity and project governance controls.
  • Drive portfolio prioritisation and support informed decision-making.
  • Develop and embed consistent delivery standards, reporting frameworks and best practices.
  • Ensure strong PMO disciplines and effective project controls are applied.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Provide clear visibility of portfolio performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to delivery processes and ways of working.

About You

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Delivery Management
  • Proven experience leading delivery teams and managing performance, capability and development.
  • Strong portfolio management experience across multiple concurrent projects and programmes.
  • Significant experience in governance, PMO leadership and reporting.
  • Strong project management knowledge and understanding of multiple delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent prioritisation, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage risks, issues, dependencies and competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience in resource planning, capacity management and portfolio oversight.
  • Strong financial awareness, including oversight of budgets, suppliers and procurement activities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to switch context quickly.
  • Collaborative, resilient and people-focused leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement.
